₹500 or 1000?

Well at first I thought I wouldn’t give my opinion publicly on this but then something happened today that made me do it anyhow.

By now I think everyone knows about the ban on 500 and 1000₹ notes and the consequences of it so I’ll go straight to my point. I am not the PM I am not any high authority official, I am just a common person and so I think like one. So when the news was broadcasted I thought of not my excess money but about how will I survive till the crisis is solved.

Anyways, I am not here to talk about myself I am here to share a story and honestly I am not doing it to gain sympathy nor even to claim of be right or wrong. I just felt like sharing it.

My house helper today came to our house and almost begged to my mother for some money. Well, her story was something like this. She was broke just like other POOR people and hand managed to borrow 500₹ from someone yesterday and today it was just a piece of paper and by the time she realised what she had to do she had to wait for practically another 48 hours to get some “money”.

“Bhabhi ji please lend me some money I have to buy food for myself and my children and I do not have any money. I somehow managed 500₹ yesterday and today this is not even money for the same grocery store.” These were her exact words.

Well this may be the right decision for my country and I am not saying this should not have happened but the only thing that would have helped more to the general public would be a bit more of time and a certain amount of warning.

I think in a step of clearing away all the black money, somehow the poorest of all are suffering the most. The owners of the black money may not have had to undergo such trouble which the underprivileged people are going through.

PS: My current situation-

Me: Collecting all 100s and 20 and 10s to give some cash to the pizza guy. I don’t even know when I can go to the bank as I am not free up till Friday.

My friend: Banks are open on Saturdays and Sundays too.

Me: That’s like a bite of stale paneer for me now when I am damn hungry. And I don’t even like paneer.

My friend: Then why did you order paneer?

Me: I ordered for euros but then lost all my ₹ too 😀

      1. Sorry to say everyone had thought about few who have a black money. Not about the people who live on regular wages, how they are going to manage? This was good but not at the cost of them. This will proof to be a destroyer.

      2. Exactly what I am trying to say here. Thanks for understanding their trouble. I am concerned about them since that very day.
Everyone says we should stand by each other now but then how many of us are actually going to help them?
The people with black money they will somehow manage the 100s and also somehow try and transfer the 500s and 1000s but what about the ones waiting in the queue since morning just to change 1500 for that is the only amount that they have.
        Just my perception.

      3. Agreed I would like to say jiskai sath hota hai voh baithar samaj sakta hai. Hume toh sab acha lagega but what about them? Even they are searching work so that they will get meal once a day. Thats what I am thinking about this all. Its not 100 percent literacy rate that they will find jobs. Small sector was not completely ready for this, is’nt it?

  1. This is going to be a big game changer. I would argue that we should have been informed us that PM is going to make a speech ahead (just the timing not the content) and the banks must have been ready with the notes by today because the process of printing and circulation started months ago. We, as literates, should not only bite through this period but help our illiterates citizens to go through this phase successfully. Your mother has done her part for good of the nation. Kudos👏…. Let us do ours.✌ Thanks for sharing your story.

    1. I had to share this story 🙂
And this is exactly my point that if something of this significance was going to happen then the new currency should have been ready.
Yesterday the banks ran out of cash and even today the nearest ATM to my house is out of service.
This is the kind of trouble I was worried of.

  2. A bit of hardship will be there but it’s ultimately for good. If a warning would have been given, those having black money would have already deposited the money somewhere but it was done purposely at night.
    Its a checkmate sorta situation.

      1. The people with black money may be very less but the amount of money they are holding is too much.
It isn’t going to get rid of black money at once because some other reforms have to be made.

  3. I completely agree with you that poor, illiterate people are going to face some problem for few days maybe till month end especially the daily wages people. But people like us must understand the need of such decision for our country and try and help as much as possible to all such people who are in touch with us. We are educated, financially independent and owe a bit to the society, so help out all such poor, needy guys and support our government. I strongly believe that timing of such decision was the most important thing.

  4. Well this a controversy. Firstly, warning about such a initiative would have been rather disastrous. And who says this decision would clear all the black money left. The greatest amount of black money would have remained with the modi government themselves. Overall, this decision was need we have been declared as one of the most corrupted countries of the world. Poor people are certainly going to face problems. It’s a shock therapy to our country. But maybe there would a economy rise. This big step has big pros and big cons.

  5. lol.. I am a banker and I loved this change but for the next few days our necks are gonna be heavily under work… Many poor people are suffering because of this though. Things will change soon so no worries. 🙂

  6. See, ‘a bit more of time and warning’ would have nullified the entire effect of banning these notes. You know what actually is the best and the most intelligent part of this initiative is its ‘TIMING’. If even a slightest hint would’ve had been given to the country, it would have taken black money owners- one mere hour to manage and transfer or do what ever with their black money. Just mere one hour. And then the initiative would have had become nothing but futile.
Coming to your point of the problem being faced by the poor and commoners like us -I agree with you totally on that. More than us, poor’s are being badly affected. But for a good national change, we’ll have to bear some problems.
All I request all the commoners as of now, is to prevent the poor’s by lending or giving them the valid notes and money. For once, it is possible for us to survive but not for them. 🙂

    1. Yes, I agree with the black money issue.
But what has happened is as always the poor are not being helped.
And also many of the ATMS are closed and the banks are running out of cash.
I am not saying it is a wrong initiative, I am just worried about the consequences.
